Google Maps turns 20 with Nicholas Tse's culinary choices in HK
share on
In celebration of its 20th birthday, Google Maps has teamed up with Hong Kong artist Nicholas Tse, also known as "chef Nic", to curate a list of his favourite places to eat in Hong Kong named “Chef Nic’s choice”.
Tse’s handpicked list invites locals and tourists to explore Hong Kong’s unique culinary culture through his eyes and palate. Since he’s also preparing for his first solo concert after a 25-year hiatus, Tse included a concert warm-up playlist in the Maps list for fans to enjoy while exploring.
Tse has selected over 30 restaurants that highlight Hong Kong’s diverse culinary scene. Among them, Kam Fung Restaurant, with its classic Hong Kong-style chicken pies and pineapple buns, described by Tse as “guilty pleasures.” Meanwhile, My Cup of Tea’s “bold and rich” milk tea has also made the cut.
For a fusion of Sichuan and Cantonese flavours, Golden Valley and The Demon Celebrity create a culinary wonderland with their innovative dishes. As for Michelin-starred gems, Yat Lok Restaurant and Kwan Kee Claypot Rice leave a lasting impression on Tse.

“Google Maps has always been my trusted companion for travel. It not only helps me navigate and customise my routes, but it also helps me discover local food and attractions. I’m thrilled to collaborate with Google Maps on its 20th anniversary and share my favourite Hong Kong restaurants with friends worldwide through the new Shared List Feature in Hong Kong. I hope to inspire everyone to explore this ‘food paradise’. Feel free to save my Maps list and check out the notes I jot down for each spot - and maybe we’ll see each other there!” said Tse.
Beyond “Chef Nic’s choice,” Google Maps users can access exclusive lists from trusted partners such as the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), MTR Corporation, and KKday by searching “Hong Kong” on the platform.

These lists can be easily saved to users’ map or shared with friends. They are also integrated into the placesheets of listed points of interest (POIs), providing relevant recommendations when and where users need them. This interactive function presents all the essential information including expert insights, photos, reviews, operating hours, amongst others, directly on the map, eliminating the need to switch between multiple tabs and simplifying travel research.
Over the past two decades, Google Maps has transformed how people see and navigate the world, with its local guides on helping users worldwide discover new places through local knowledge and experiences. To mark the 20-year milestone of Google Maps, it also unveiled some of Hong Kong’s most-reviewed and most-photographed spots of all time and encouraged everyone to share their favourite Google Maps spots on social media.
