Gaming hardware company Razer Inc has named Nikhil Kharoo as its new global public relations director, according to a LinkedIn update by Kharoo.

"It is time to start something new and exciting," Kharoo wrote in a post. "I am happy to be leading the global public relations teams and efforts as global PR director at Razer," he continued.

MARKETING-INTERACTIVE understands that Kharoo's remit includes global PR efforts across the US, Europe and the Asia Pacific region.

Kharoo joins the company from Google where he was its head of PR, partnerships and health solutions marketing, a role he held from 2021 to 2023.

Prior to his stint at Google, Kharoo was at fitness tracking company Fitbit for just under six years. He joined the company in 2017 as its brand partnerships and public relations manager for the APAC region before being promoted in 2018 to head of PR and partnerships Asia Pacific.

He also worked at Burson-Marsteller for just under 10 years, starting as an associate in India before moving up to managing partner and senior director in 2017.

Kharoo's appointment comes a few months after Razer suffered a potential hack impacting Razer Gold, its virtual gaming credits system, according to a statement by the company at the time when MARKETING-INTERACTIVE reached out.

According to The Straits Times, in July, a seller on a hacker forum was offering the stolen data for US$100,000 in cryptocurrency. This includes source code and back-end access logins for Razer's website and its products.

According to X account FalconFeedsio, which posted a screengrab of the hackers’ forum last year, the seller stated that he would sell data to only one customer for the price of US100,000 in the Monero cryptocurrency. However, he added that he would be open to offers which are lower than the stipulated amount. The Monero cryptocurrency allows for more private transactions, potentially allowing the seller to maintain privacy.
