Hong Kong virtual bank Fusion Bank has appointed Ari Zhou (pictured left) as executive director and chief executive.
Zhou boasts nearly 40 years of professional experience working at domestic and foreign financial institutions. The bank said has a deep insight into the evolution of financial businesses at home and abroad as he held positions in the management of major banks both onshore and offshore. Zhou also has a wealth of experience not only in promoting innovation through the adoption of financial technology within the context of a commercial banking system but also in striking a fine balance between regulatory compliance, proper risk management and technological innovation.
Meanwhile, the bank has also appointed Eric Sum (pictured right) is appointed as alternate chief executive and managing director of Fusion Bank. He will continue to serve as the executive director at Fusion Bank, collaborating with Zhou to manage the Bank. Sum boasts nearly 30 years of experience in banking operations, financial management and other professional fields. Prior to joining Fusion Bank, he had worked in an international professional services firm and an international banking group, managing the banking group’s business operation in the Asia Pacific region.
The bank said, "We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to Zhou and Sum for their valuable contribution during the preparation phase, business launch and ongoing development of Fusion Bank. Going forward, they will join hands to implement our mission and vision of 'Tech for Good, Infinity for You.' In pursuit of excellence, the management at Fusion Bank will also continue to embrace the philosophy of adopting a long-term, stability-focused perspective to bring excellent products and services to our clients."
The leadership of virtual banks has been shuffling this year. For example, Ant Bank (Hong Kong) appointed Yvonne Leung as chief executive earlier this month. Leung joined Ant Bank Hong Kong in November 2019. She was subsequently appointed as alternate chief executive and led the team to plan and execute various important initiatives, including setting up its business development strategy, designing the blueprint for building product lines, and defining different commercial imperatives and action plans.
In September, Deniz Güven stepped down as CEO of Mox. In a press statement, Mox said Güven stepped down as CEO of Mox and executive director of the board, with effect from 27 September 2021, to pursue a new business venture. He serves as a special advisor to Standard Chartered on a number of important digital initiatives. Replacing him is Barbaros Uygun, a global leader in the digital and banking space who has worked with the likes of ING Bank and Garanti Bank in digital banking capacities.
