Bernard Chong, former regional head of marketing for SEEK Asia, has joined foodpanda Malaysia as marketing director. In his role, Chong (pictured) reports to Sayantan Das, MD of foodpanda Malaysia, and will work closely with the marketing and growth teams. Caroline Wee, head of marketing for food delivery and Vanita Menon, head of marketing in turn report to Chong. 

According to Chong, speed and convenience are very important to consumers now. As marketing director, he aims to turn foodpanda Malaysia into a household name nationwide, increasing awareness as well as the adoption of the platform across all territories in the country. While Chong did not give specific plans as to what foodpanda Malaysia's marketing plans would be in 2022, he told A+M that the core value of the team would be unchanged. "We will strive to be genuine in our interactions, promote understanding and inclusiveness, at the same time deliver value with everything we create and share," he added. 

During this time at SEEK Asia, the parent company of JobStreet and JobsDB, as regional head of marketing, Chong was responsible for developing marketing strategies campaign optimisations, data visualisation and analytics, his LinkedIn said. Additionally, Chong was in charge of digital transformation where CRM and marketing automation was launched across Asia markets, focusing on personalised experiences. Chong also designed B2B and B2C journeys with automated interactions through the use of martech

Before SEEK, Chong helmed the role of executive head of digital and analytics at Hong Leong Assurance for close to a year. According to his LinkedIn, Chong was an executive committee member, leading the digital and analytics initiatives at this insurance company. He also served as Citibank's VP for head of consumer cards portfolio management for four years and Accenture's management consulting manager for more than two years. 

Foodpanda Malaysia was previously on the hunt for a marketing director after it named Wee as the new head of marketing, food delivery earlier this year. Wee works alongside Menon for new verticals to oversee all marketing aspects of foodpanda Malaysia. Meanwhile, Menon overlooks all aspects of foodpanda shops, pandamart, and pandapro.

The company is currently in the midst of appointing a media agency in Malaysia. The incumbent is Carat and the appointment will be two years with the option to extend for another.
