Foodpanda has launched a new delivery fleet that exclusively delivers halal food.

Called ‘bekal by foodpanda’, the delivery service is certified halal by JAKIM, the department of Islamic development.

In an effort to ensure that the food will not be contaminated from the moment an order is placed on a halal-certified merchant on foodpanda to the moment it is delivered, bekal by foodpanda is equipped with halal-compliant delivery bags and provided with specialised training on halal awareness and sertu (ritual cleansing).

This initiative was born out of foodpanda’s recognition of an increasing demand amongst customers for an end-to-end halal-certified delivery service in Muslim majority countries.

“Today, I’m very proud that we have launched a fully halal-certified food delivery fleet - the first in the Delivery Hero group. Being halal-certified means that our customers can trust us when it comes to upholding the strictest hygiene and food safety standards,” said CEO of bekal by foodpanda, Sayantan Das.

According to Das, it is estimated that the halal food sector in Malaysia will be worth RM201.02 billion by 2025. Hence, demonstrating their commitment to Muslim customers that bekal by foodpanda is fully equipped to ensure the purity of their halal food items, even when they order food online from foodpanda was imperative.

“We are glad to be in a position to give them the comfort that they can order and consume their food items with peace of mind,” he added.

Delivery being the central purpose of the brand, foodpanda has made significant steps towards enhancing the quality of its delivery fleets while caring for them too.

Earlier this year, foodpanda launched a ‘double tips, double love’ campaign across Asia in six markets in April 2023. The campaign is launched to show appreciation for delivery partners who are working hard to deliver food and groceries. Through this, foodpanda highlighted the importance of delivery partners’ role in the delivery ecosystem.
