foodpanda Hong Kong has joined forces with local technology company Cornerstone Technologies to launch an electric motorbike battery swapping network, aiming to reduce carbon emissions during delivery for foodpanda couriers and promote local sustainable development.
The network, launched under Cornerstone Technologies’ new SWAP brand, is designed exclusively for foodpanda couriers. They can purchase an electric motorbike and enjoy its corresponding battery swapping services through a monthly instalment plan.
The initiative eliminates the delivery need to make a one-time purchase of a traditional gasoline motorbike and helps to attract more people to join the delivery industry with a lowered entry threshold.
Under the partnership, ZEEGO by Mile Green provides those electric motorbikes which offer similar performance to gasoline motorbikes, meeting the daily demands of couriers. The motorbikes effectively save energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions, reducing emissions up to 75% of compared to traditional motorbikes.
Couriers can subscribe to the plan for HK$2,666 per month over a 36-month period, and they can own the motorbike once the period is over. The plan includes unlimited battery swaps at designated pandamarts, along with welcome gifts such as a front handle, rear luggage rack, mobile phone holder, and a motorbike-specific bag.
foodpanda HK is also providing nearly HK$2,000 maintenance credit, as well as delivery equipment for the first batch of participants in the scheme to encourage more couriers to switch to electric motorbikes.
Ryan Lai, chief executive officer, foodpanda Hong Kong, said: “foodpanda Hong Kong has always been committed to promoting sustainable development within the delivery industry and actively reducing carbon footprint with Hongkongers and our partners. We are delighted to collaborate with Cornerstone Technologies, becoming the first delivery platform in Hong Kong to launch the Electric Motorbike Battery Swapping Network, promoting the large-scale transition among couriers to adopt environmentally friendly electric motorbikes.”
“Through this partnership, we hope to set up more Cornerstone SWAP battery swapping stations at pandamart locations. This not only provides our couriers with a more convenient and environmentally friendly delivery experience, but can also attract more people to join, promoting the long-term development of the delivery industry. Looking into the future, we hope to continue to innovate and build a sustainable community with our stakeholders,” he added.
Vincent Yip, chief executive officer, Cornerstone Technologies, said: "Cornerstone Technologies focuses on promoting sustainable green travel and is committed to providing diversified electric vehicle charging solutions. We proactively fulfil our corporate social responsibility, and promote environmental protection through innovative technologies to strive for a zero-carbon future, facilitating the sustainable development of the society and the environment. We partnered with foodpanda Hong Kong to launch the Electric Motorbike Battery Swapping Network, aiming to provide their couriers with convenient battery swapping services.”
“With just three steps - SCAN, SWAP, START - battery swapping can be completed in a blink. We will set up more battery swapping stations, to provide comprehensive services to couriers in different locations. This not only improves work efficiency, but also promotes the popularisation of electric motorbikes. In addition, the partnership is also fully supported by ZEEGO by Mile Green, who is providing their lightweight electric motorbike with a maximum driving range up to 150 kilometers. This effectively reduces carbon emissions, making it an ideal environmentally friendly delivery tool for couriers. Through this partnership, we will continue to strengthen the entire electric travel ecosystem, contributing to Hong Kong's sustainable development and green travel,” he added.
