Facebook's Nicola Mendelsohn elevated to lead global ad biz

Facebook has named Nicola Mendelsohn head of global business group, succeeding Carolyn Everson who left a few months ago. Mendelsohn (pictured) has been serving as the interim head of the global business group since June and said in a LinkedIn post that it has been "a tremendous privilege" getting to know clients and partners around the world.
"I am over the moon to be able to continue working with them for the long-term," she said, adding that she is deeply humbled by the faith that chief business officer Marne Levine, COO Sheryl Sandberg, and CEO Mark Zuckerberg have placed in her. Mendelsohn will stay on as VP of EMEA in the interim while Facebook hunts for her replacement. Facebook confirmed the appointment but declined to comment further.
Mendelsohn has been with the company for eight years, according to her LinkedIn. She has also worked at Diageo, Grey and BBH. Mendelsohn officially takes on the new role as the tech giant battles media scrutiny about prioritising profit over the safety and well being of users, as well as claims such as Instagram being toxic for teenagers. This comes after Wall Street Journal's investigative series titled "The Facebook Files", which revealed internal documents about the harm that Facebook's products are causing to users.
Zuckerberg and VP of global affairs, Nick Clegg, have since come out to defend those allegations. Clegg said previously that The Facebook Files contained "deliberate mischaracterisations" of what the company is trying to do. He also said in a recent interview with CNN that Facebook plans to introduce changes to its system which will nudge teens to look at other types of content if they are found to be browsing the same content repeatedly, especially those that may not be conducive to their well-being.
