The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia has appointed Danny Koik as executive director of partnerships and business development of Disney+. In this new role based in Singapore, Koik (pictured) will be responsible for developing and leading the execution of the distribution and business development strategy across Southeast Asia, with a focus on making Disney+ available across multiple platform and devices, and creating easy access for subscribers.
Koik will also collaborate with relevant players, including and not limited to telecommunications, PayTV operators, mobile original equipment manufacturers, financial technologies and digital platforms, to drive growth in the region. He will report to Amit Malhotra, regional lead, emerging markets, The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific.
Prior to joining Disney, Koik was regional director of partnerships at Grab, where he oversaw tech, media and telco, FMCG and mobility services. He was also the country head of business development in Myanmar. Koik was also previously with International Enterprise Singapore, where he served as technology, media and telecommunications divisional director, spearheading the internationalisation of Singapore companies. Besides that, he also held previous roles in the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, leading key initiatives in evangelising the mobile ecosystem across Singapore, as well as in Mediacorp, where he transformed the business from analogue to digital and implemented multiple IT and broadcast engineering systems.
Malhotra said: “Koik has spearheaded impactful and innovative outcomes that have been both consumer and partner-focused, and his deep understanding of the tech and digital ecosystem will be key in bringing the best experience to our subscribers and partners in the region.”
Koik’s appointment comes one week after Disney appointed former CEO of Primeworks Studios Ahmad Izham Omar as its executive director of content and creative for Disney+. Izham will be responsible for developing and producing original programming, as well as acquiring content and ensuring end-to-end title launch readiness. He will also oversee the production of surround content for major sports and general entertainment programs.
Earlier in July, Disney and FOX in Southeast Asia concluded their digital and social media pitch, and MARKETING-INTERACTIVE understands that Publicis Singapore was appointed to handle duties across the region. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE also understands that the pitch process involved at least two other agencies and covers six markets across Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
