DDB China Group appoints Allen Lee as chief creative officer

DDB China Group has appointed Allen Lee as its chief creative officer. He will lead the creative teams of DDB, Tribal, and TracyLocke in the China market. Prior to this appointment, the position had been vacant for over a year.Before joining DDB, Lee was CCO and senior VP of 180 Shanghai, a digital agency in China. During his time there, Lee had worked on the Budweiser 2018 FIFA campaign and also produced a series of entertainment marketing campaigns for McDonald’s China. In 2006, Lee became the first creative director of Tribal DDB when the digital agency established its Shanghai office. “Allen has a local creative’s unique insight to the China market and consumers, he also understands the operation of international 4A agencies very well,” said Danny Mok, CEO and president of DDB China Group.One of the highlights of Lee’s advertising career was co-establishing im 2.0 – first as ECD and managing partner, then as CCO – assisting its growth into a leading integrated agency, which was eventually acquired by WPP, and renamed as VML.With over 20 years’ experience in creative agencies, Lee has witnessed and participated in the explosive growth of China’s advertising industry over the past two decades. Lee started by crafting film and traditional advertising material, before moving on to digital integration and entertainment marketing for the past decade. As a creative veteran, Lee has served on the jury panel for many China advertising awards and has picked up hundreds of advertising awards himself.Mok added, “He [Lee] has a genuine gift for delivering insightful creative solutions to clients’ business problems while setting a high bar for creative quality. Over the past year, we have been looking for the best CCO candidate for DDB, and I believe Allen fits the role perfectly.
