DBS HK introduces new staff uniform to promote sustainability

DBS Bank Hong Kong has introduced a brand-new uniform for branch staff to encourage sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle.

The wardrobe refresh builds on the brand’s image as a forward-looking bank of the future, presenting its brand value proposition as encapsulated by the “Live more, Bank less” ethos.

From now onwards, DBS Hong Kong’s frontline employees will wear a new casual uniform on Fridays and Saturdays. The uniform not only presents a younger and energetic yet professional look, but also serves as one of the ways to embed environmentally friendly elements and sustainability in every aspect of the business.

Featuring stylish colour-blocking inspired by the bank’s brand palette, the polo shirts are made from a sustainable fibre mix of organic cotton and recycled polyester, where the organic cotton is grown and processed without pesticides or other harmful chemicals, and optimises resource use to achieve a smaller carbon footprint, according to the press release.

The polyester utilises post-consumer plastic bottles, thereby reducing the amount of plastic that ends up in the landfill.

The branch suits for the company have also been made from eco-friendly fabric since 2020, with 65% recycled polyester and 35% polyester blend. Approximately seven plastic bottles are recycled in the construction of each garment.

A spokesperson of DBS HK said: “DBS leads the way by constantly transforming itself beyond what is expected of a bank, and challenging traditional notions of what a bank should be, enabling customers to have more time to enjoy life and seize new opportunities.”

“We are proud to represent our future-oriented ethos through our upgraded uniforms. As a purpose-driven bank, DBS will continue to further our sustainability agenda in every possible way,” the spokesperson added.

Ajay Mathur, head of consumer banking group and wealth management at DBS Bank Hong Kong, said: “We see this wardrobe refresh as an important initiative, not only it portraits a young and energetic image of our frontline employees, but also demonstrates the bank’s commitment in driving positive environmental impact to our community.  As we work towards becoming the Best Bank for a Better World, we will continue to embedding sustainability in our businesses while enabling our customers with seamless integrated banking experience in their everyday lives.”

Earlier last week, DBS launched its latest regional campaign that reflects its belief that, by behaving more like a startup, more like a techie, more like an eco-warrior, and less like a "traditional bank, it can be a bank for the times – because a post-COVID world demands for a different kind of bank. The brand campaign which comes four years after its “Live more, Bank less” positioning, builds on what DBS wants to stand for and aims to defy the status quo of what being a bank means.

The campaign, which will be rolling out across six markets in Asia, namely Singapore, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia and Taiwan over the next two months, showcases DBS' commitment to becoming more like a forward looking tech company offering financial services. Done together with Tribal Worldwide Singapore, the campaign will run largely on digital, social and OOH platforms.
