DBS HK empowers SMEs with new sustainability campaign

DBS SME Banking has launched a marketing campaign under its SME community programme DBS BusinessClass, aiming to support Hong Kong SMEs to kick off their low-carbon transformation journey.
The campaign comes with the tagline “DBS & SMEs: Together we make the low carbon journey possible (DBS陪中小企行多步,低碳升LV Possible) ”, which aims to help SMEs navigate the complexities of transitioning to a low-carbon business model and inspire them to take progressive steps towards sustainability, with support from DBS.
The first phase of the campaign starts with the release of an online video titled “DBS Sustainability Mission: SME Low Carbon Level Up Challenge (DBS永續任務:中小企低碳升LV大挑戰)” in late March.
Hosted by local actress Bonde Sham and Thomas CC Wong, founding president of the Institute of International Sustainable Development, the episode has selected Cocolo, a local F&B SME, for a sustainable makeover, to showcase a "before and after" makeover comparison and demonstrate how SMEs taking a step forward can lead to key changes in low-carbon transformation and yield positive business impacts.
The episode showcases the collaborative efforts of Wong and DBS’s sustainability team to help Cocolo undergo five key transformation areas, including eco-friendly decoration and package redesign, improving energy efficiency, waste management and recycling, and promoting social responsibility.
Extending the campaign beyond the screen, DBS will host the “DBS BusinessClass SME sustainability boot camp (DBS BusinessClass中小企低碳升LV實戰營)” on 17 April 2024.
Targeting SMEs in the F&B and retail sectors, the boot camp will provide inspiration and practices on low-carbon transformation, while also inviting experts to share tips to help SMEs better equipped for the impending regulations on disposable plastic tableware and other plastic products and municipal solid waste charging.
Moreover, the boot camp will allow SMEs to create an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) profile for free. They can also explore alternatives to traditional plastic packaging and participate in a plastic-free and waste-reduction masterclass during the event.
Eva Leung, executive director and head of marketing, institutional banking group, DBS Bank (Hong Kong), said: “We recognise the passion SMEs have for sustainability and the challenges they face in taking their first steps towards a low-carbon future. Our campaign is a testament to our commitment to SMEs, partnering with them and supporting every step of their sustainability journey. At DBS, we inspire and empower SMEs to confidently lead the way in sustainability.”

The loan echoes Lukfook’s goal to complete the establishment of its environmental protection-related goals, including the long-term carbon reduction goals, as well as goals related to exhaust gas and greenhouse gas emissions, waste, energy use efficiency and water efficiency, within this timeframe, with a view to aligning with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s target of achieving carbon neutrality before 2050.
