Located at Causeway Bay, Cinema City VICTORIA announced its closure on Tuesday due to the pandemic. Cinema City said that its Causeway Bay branch will close permanently after four years of operation. It added that the closure was due to tenancy expiration and Hong Kong's current pandemic situation. On its Facebook page, it said, "Due to the tenancy expiration and recent pandemic situation, we regret to inform you that CINEMA CITY VICTORIA (Causeway Bay) will be closed with effect from 15 February 2022. Thank you for supporting CINEMA CITY VICTORIA in the past four years, and it has been a pleasure for us to serve you."
Last week, Broadway Circuit stopped the operation of its cinema Broadway Hollywood located in Diamond Hill, Hong Kong as its lease will expire in March.
The company announced the news on its Facebook account. The post reads, "Thank you for supporting Broadway Hollywood over the years! Due to the expiration of the lease in March, and all cinemas having to close amid the pandemic, we are sorry for not being able to say goodbye 'in light and shadow'. We look forward to seeing you again in other Broadway theaters in the future."
The post contains a picture with the sentence "See you and stay healthy."
According to the website of Broadway Circuit, Broadway Hollywood boasts six houses and 1,614 seats. The website of Broadway Circuit has also been updated. It reads, "Thank you for always coming to Broadway Hollywood! Due to the expiry of the lease in March, Broadway Hollywood will be closed. We look forward to seeing you again in other nearly Broadway Cinemas!"
Broadway Circuit is another victim of the pandemic. In March 2021, UA Cinemas closed its six remaining locations with immediate effect; it did not renew its lease at K11 MUSEA in February last year too. Founded in 1985, UA cinema said on 8 March 2021 that due to unavoidable and devastating pressure faced by our operators since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, it ceased business with immediate effect.
