Hong Kong-based PR agency Pinocchio Communications has established a talent agency featuring plus-size female models, hoping to disrupt the definition of beauty in Asian markets.

The talent agency "ChubbyChubby Model Management" (肉肉事務所) aims to offer more opportunities for plus-size female models. Last year, the agency started recruiting plus-size ladies in Hong Kong and Taiwan. According to the agency, some of them boast experience in modelling and acting, while a handful of them specialise in singing and dancing.

ChubbyChubby Model Management said it hopes to disrupt the conventional business model of talent agencies, conveying the idea of "Beauty doesn’t have a weight limit." Moreover, the agency said the entablement of it was inspired by Victoria's Secret as it debuted plus-size model in 2019.

Vincent Tsui, founder of ChubbyChubby Model Management, said "Plus-size models are prevalent in foreign countries, offering more choices to brands. As an international city, Hong Kong should not lag behind other cities in the world. We hope to offer plus-size models more opportunities to participate in ads, movies, music videos, dramas and product testing content, to name a few."

ChubbyChubby Model Management also announced its body mass index-linked commission scheme. "Unlike most of the floating and non-transparent commission scheme that most modelling agencies use, we are adopting a simple and precise commission rate according to your BMI with a cap at 30%. Life is fun, so should commission rate," the agency said.

Terence Yam, co-founder and managing director of Pinocchio Communications said that helping plus-size female model look for opportunities is just the first step of its business. "We hope to offer them a platform to develop their talent and characteristics. helping more plus-size female models build their confidence."

According to ChubbyChubby Model Management's website, it had 19 models based in Hong Kong and nine models from Taiwan.

Moving forward, ChubbyChubby Model Management will roll out an offline campaign, including OOH ads and videos, to recruit more oversize females who aspire to participate in onstage performances. The campaign is also aimed at helping model increase their exposure and line up for business opportunities.
