PM Anwar Ibrahim reportedly said that Chinese investors and companies have shown increased interest in investing into Malaysia.
Speaking to Malaysian media after a roundtable session with over 20 industry leaders on Wednesday (6 Nov), PM Anwar said he has seen rising enthusiasm and interest from investors and companies in China and called it a "positive development", reported The Star. Despite stating that back-to-back meetings had been exhausting, the prime minister reportedly said the session is beneficial.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said that the roundtable session is part of his task to attract investments to Malaysia. He added that the session consisted of discussions and the exploration of investment and trade opportunities in Malaysia in various key sectors. The sectors includes semiconductors, aerospace, electric vehicles, automotive components, medical devices and equipment as well as telecommunication innovation centers.
"Many companies want to choose Malaysia as a strategic partner in Southeast Asia following the global changes in the supply chain, alongside Malaysia's excluding policy, skilled workforce as well as business-friendly policies and environment that guarantee stability and growth for them. Thus, I assure industry leaders that Malaysia is always ready to provide support to investors and trading partners through the resources and stability required for business to continue growing," said Anwar.
The minister named some of the investors inlcluding Chengwei Capital, a prominent venture capital firm with deep expertise and resources in global semiconductors, and NRL Capital, whose founders have played pivotal roles in building high-tech industrial clusters across China, said Anwar.
"Our discussion anchored on Malaysia's centrality and its attractiveness as an investment destination, driven by our skilled workforce and supportive government policies. We also explored avenues for collaboration in technology and innovation investments in Malaysia. These investors will look to collaborate with Khazanah to build next-generation Malaysian companies and further boost Malaysia’s role in global supply chains, particularly in high-tech sectors. Such collaborations will further drive the Madani Economy vision of fostering innovation and making technology accessible and inclusive for all," he added
PM Anwar first started his work trip to China on Wednesday where he attended the 7th China International Import Expo. In his opening ceremony speech, he commended China for championing the spirit of shared prosperity. "I underscored that multilateral cooperation on free trade and sustainability goals should serve as a catalyst for equitable global progress—not as a tool to stifle competition, create unfair advantage, or incite conflict," said Anwar in a statement.
The prime minister also met with China's premier Li Qiang to strengthen the long-standing friendship between Malaysia and China. "In the context of Malaysia-China cooperation, I highlighted Malaysia’s openness to deepening strategic partnerships and welcoming greater investments in high-quality technology, digital economy initiatives, education, and other skill-intensive sectors. Malaysia is also keen to boost bilateral trade, particularly in halal products and agri-commodities, while fostering strong exchanges in research, development, and technical expertise," said Anwar in a statement.
"Malaysia stands ready to learn from China’s successes in these areas through partnerships with the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and the International Poverty Reduction Centre (IPRCC)," he added.
Malaysia and China celebrated its 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in June this year.
In June, Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil reportedly said that the establishment is an opportunity to enhance future cooperation and that it has borne considerable fruit over the past 50 years. Speaking to reporters after attending a dinner commemorating the 50th anniversary, the minister reportedly added that the two nations can build together and ensure that the Southeast Asian region becomes more prosperous and peaceful.
In addition, he said the close relationship with China would positively impact the ASEAN alliance, according to Bernama. During the dinner ceremony, the communications ministry exchanged two memorandums of understanding (MoU) with the Chinese ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing.
The exchange of documents was witnessed by the prime ministers of Malaysia and China, said Fahmi in a statement on X.
