Digital SEA Indonesia has appointed Chetan Shetty as its managing director. In his role, Shetty (pictured) will be responsible for running both McCann Indonesia and FCB Jakarta, as well as supporting the CEO on running the Digital SEA group P&L. He reports to Bhaskar Rao, CEO, Digital SEA.
Shetty's previous roles spanned both Indonesia and India, with 16 years of experience across media and creative agencies at both WPP and IPG. Prior to joining Digital SEA Indonesia, he was the former head of content at Wavemaker. In that role, he was tasked to establish the content vertical in Wavemaker. Before that, he was the head of digital and group account director at FCB Jakarta for over five years, where he was involved in the setting-up and running of the digital division at the agency. Shetty was also the business group head at MEC from 2008 to 2012, before the agency merged with Maxus to form Wavemaker in 2017.
Based in Indonesia for the past seven years, Shetty is said to bring a "rich" experience in managing clients across multiple categories. These brands include Unilever Indonesia, Mondelez South East Asia, Beiersdorf, Levi’s, Mercedes-Benz, Citibank and Fonterra.
Digital SEA Indonesia is an entity consisting of agencies FCB Global and McCann Worldgroup in Indonesia. Under the structure, Digital SEA Indonesia retains relationships with both global networks as an affiliate. The agencies co-locate and share back-office services, while maintaining the independence of each network. The arrangement also sees both McCann Worldgroup and FCB networks will continue as independent brands, servicing their respective clients.
Shetty said both FCB Jakarta and McCann Indoneisa are partnering with some of the "great brands" in the market and he looks forward to contributing and working together with the team. "“Indonesia’s internet penetration has already crossed 65% of the total population. Additionally, the current situation is driving brands to look at digital as the core part of their marketing mix and they are increasing spend accordingly. Now they don’t just want to reach a consumer, but most importantly, engage and persuade," he added.
Rao said: “Shetty is the perfect fit for the Indonesian market needs, as well as the ambitions of Digital SEA. With his wide experience in the content and digital space, and his familiarity with the market, we are excited that he will play a major role in steering growth for our clients and for us.”
Separately earlier in July, McCann Worldgroup expanded the remit for Mark Ringer to take on the Southeast Asia creative market as ECD. According to Ringer’s LinkedIn profile, he was last double-hatting as regional creative director for Mastercard for the Asia Pacific market and ECD for McCann Worldgroup, Singapore.
