CelcomDigi inspires Malaysians to reconnect with their roots

This festive season, Malaysian telco CelcomDigi is inspiring Malaysians to reconnect with their roots with their festive film "Bejalai: Journey of Inspiration".

Drawing inspiration from the traditional Iban custom of Bejalai, the film explores the timeless rite of passes where Iban men set out on journeys to seek wisdom, wealth, or fame, before returning to their communities to inspire others.

The film features Malaysia’s Olympic medalist, Watson Nyambek, known as The Flying Dayak, who shares his own remarkable journey of Bejalai, one that led him to win multiple Olympic medals.

While Watson achieved extraordinary success on the global stage, his most cherished accomplishment remains the moment he returned home to share his triumphs and honour the community that shaped him.

"As we continue to connect over 20 million customers, we strive to inspire Malaysians to pursue their individual paths to greater heights by equipping the local communities especially youth with essential digital skills and safe Internet habits to thrive in a fast-evolving digital economy," CelcomDigi said in a statement.

"This festive season, we invite all Malaysians to reflect on their journeys and achievements, close the year with gratitude, and begin the new year inspired to create new possibilities," it added.

CelcomDigi is no stranger to heartwarming films. In April last year, the telco aimed to celebrate the shared experiences of a multicultural Malaysia with not just one, but three Raya campaign films this year. Done in collaboration with Naga DDB Tribal and M&C Saatchi, the series titled "Bukalah Hati" ("Open our hearts") explores the themes of sincerity, acceptance and openness and plays on the phrase "Buka Puasa" (break fast).

The three films were done by three aspiring filmmakers from diverse backgrounds who were mentored by Nadiah Hamzah of Wayang Works fame and CelcomDigi’s One Team.
