Celcom Axiata has named Ginny Phuah (pictured), head of brand and marketing, replacing Grace Chan who left the company earlier this year, A+M understands. Phuah was previously the director of product and marketing at Boost. A+M understands that Boost's COO Ungku Liza Ungku Halmie will be taking over Phuah's duties. Celcom did not respond to A+M's queries.
Meanwhile last week, the telco also saw Jack Wong move on from his role as head of digital and consumer brands, more than three years after joining the company. He first joined Celcom as head of brand advertising in 2016, according to his LinkedIn.
The telco also recently rolled out a Merdeka Day campaign titled “Getaran Pertama” together with Axiata in partnership with M&C Saatchi to uncover one of the lesser known stories behind the national anthem. The film chronicles the search for the first choir to sing the national anthem of the soon-to-be independent Malaya, by following the adventure of Ahmad Merican, the music supervisor of Radio Malaya and his good friend, music teacher and conductor, Tony Fonseka.
Celcom is currently on the hunt for a creative agency, in a bid to search for strategic long-term partners that are knowledgeable about the dynamic of its brands and industry to further grow the brands and business.
