Chu will report to Aldric Chau, general manager, digital, Cathay Pacific; and indirectly report to Lawrence Fong, digital and IT director of Cathay Pacific.
A spokesperson from Cathay Pacific told MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that the role aims to build and enhance Cathay's digital leadership by leading digital innovation, defining the overall vision and strategy, and driving innovation across the organisation in a customer-centric, efficient, and scalable manner.
“The role is crucial for helping the company evolve faster than external market changes and unlock the next phase of growth by 2025 and beyond,” the spokesperson added.
In his elevated role, Chu will oversee Cathay Pacific’s innovation process, partnerships, learning, and culture. He will also manage the innovation projects' funding and governance, represent the company in developing partnerships, and work closely with various teams to manage the innovation pipeline. “They are also responsible for organising and participating in events that promote innovation cultures such as Cathay Hackathon and internal Hackathon for staff,” said the spokesperson.
Based in Hong Kong, Chu will oversee global markets while working closely with the Greater Bay Area team to build new partnerships across Mainland China. The role requires a strong understanding of the digital landscape in Hong Kong and the company's key markets, according to the spokesperson.
Prior to his new role, Chu helmed the role of acting head of digital innovation. Before that, he had also held roles as the digital innovation manager, and digital manager for conversational platforms respectively. According to his LinkedIn, Chu led the effort in conversational AI-driven digital transformation at the enterprise scale by formulating adoption strategy with technical enablement projects, agile delivery, and CoE.
Before joining Cathay Pacific, Chu had a four-year tenure at Asia Miles. In his most recent role there, he served as assistant digital product and technology manager for almost two years, according to his LinkedIn.
