Singapore-based online used car marketplace Carro group has promoted Katherine Teo to chief marketing officer (CMO), according to Teo when MARKETING-INTERACTIVE reached out.

In her new role, Teo will continue to drive strategic marketing and branding efforts for the group, with a focus on strengthening synergy across its ancillary businesses, such as for insurance, its after sales arm Carro Care, and Genie Financial Services.

Her remit covers Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and any other emerging market.

Prior to becoming Carro's CMO, Teo was the group's regional marketing lead from December 2021 to April 2024.

The CMO role, according to Teo when MARKETING-INTERACTIVE reached out, had been empty for a few years.

As CMO, Teo will continue to report to Carro founder and group CEO, Aaron Tan.

"This is a very exciting chapter not just for me, but for Carro that's driving towards an IPO. I am so proud to be working in step with like-minded individuals who are hungry for growth and success," said Teo when MARKETING-INTERACTIVE reached out.

"I look forward to strengthening our position as the largest online used car ecosystem in Asia Pacific."

Previously, Teo was head of digital at M&C Saatchi from September 2016 to January 2021. She was also a social media lead at Leo Burnett from April 2015 to September 2016.

Before joining the agency life, she served as corporate communications at Raffles Medical Group and was features lead at Singapore Press Holdings.

In addition, Teo is also the founder and partner of Creative Collective, a collective that focuses on building communities for the digital age by humanising technology, according to Teo's LinkedIn.

This comes shortly after Carro released a new Hari Raya film that adds a cheeky take on the journey to one’s hometown for the festive season (balik kampung journey) with a high-speed car-chase to find Siti.

Titled ‘Who is Siti?’, the film begins with a mother suddenly asking her son to follow a bright orange car to meet Siti despite the family being stuck in a jam.

Thinking his mother spotted a long-lost family member, the son puts on a pair of sunglasses and begins his high-speed chase as he overtakes other drivers on the busy road.
