Canon Marketing Malaysia has unveiled a photography workshop and photo exhibition to raise awareness on ocean conservation.

The special programme, titled "Exploring Ocean Awareness Through Photography", comes in conjunction with World Oceans Day 2024 and is in collaboration with Borneo Marine Research Institute (BMRI) and Universiti Malaya Sabah (UMS) too.

Speaking at the launch, UMS Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Kasim Mansor, encouraged the public to safeguard and rejuvenate the vitality of the oceans, securing a more promising future for generations to come.

Leading "Exploring Ocean Awareness Through Photography" is renowned underwater photographer Ipah Uid Lynnn where she led a workshop at the Azman Hashim UMS Gallery at UMS.

The workshop was open to a diverse group of participants from government agencies, NGOs, universities, and the general public and is aimed to equip attendees with essential skills for capturing the beauty of the underwater world

During the workshop, Ipah delved into key techniques for successful aquatic photography while emphasising responsible practices that minimise human impact on these delicate ecosystems.

Running alongside the workshop was a photo exhibition which showcased underwater photographs taken by Ipah. The exhibition served as a reminder of the need for marine conservation and a deeper understanding of the role the oceans play in the health of the planet.

"At Canon, we firmly believe in the power of imaging to inspire positive change," said Calvin Liew, head of Kota Kinabalu branch, Canon Marketing Malaysia.

"This workshop and photo exhibition embodies our ‘Kyosei’ philosophy of living and working together for the common good. By equipping participants with the knowledge to capture the wonders of the underwater world and showcasing Ipah's captivating imagery, we hope to ignite a passion for marine conservation and inspire action to protect our precious oceans," added Liew.

Meanwhile, on World Earth Day this year, Canon Marketing Malaysia announced that it will be extending its partnership with Taman Tugu for the third consecutive year.

To celebrate, it hosted an Earth Day event where over 60 employees and their families enjoyed a variety of activities aimed at fostering a deeper appreciation for nature and environmental conservation.

The event saw an interactive eco-workshop for children led by renowned storyteller Nor Azhar Ishak, a guided forest trail experience at Taman Tugu and a t-shirt upcycling workshop in collaboration with Zero Waste Malaysia.
