Several news anchors from Cable TV have taken down a viral dance cover resembling Jisoo, member of Korean girl group BLACKPINK, after the media company's executives expressed concerns regarding the incident.
It comes after five female Cable TV news anchors recorded a dance cover video in the newscast studio to bid farewell to their colleagues. Their dance moves were said to resemble K-pop star Jisoo’s single Flower. The video was uploaded to their personal Instagram accounts and went viral across social platforms. A check by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE saw on Facebook that some netizens said they love seeing the five news anchors being dynamic. Meanwhile, some asked whether they will switch to host variety shows.
According to HK01, the video has caught the attention of the management team of the company. The management team of Cable TV then issued an internal notice within the news department, demanding employees to “be cautious in their words and behaviour” and maintain a professional image, said the report. It also reminded employees that the newscast studio should not be treated as a place for self-entertainment.
Raymond Wong, former assistant general manager of TVB also described the incident as “a true disgrace to the craft of journalism”, according to the report. Meanwhile, the relevant anchors have deleted the video.

The incident has also drawn mixed reactions from local netizens. Media intelligence firm CARMA saw 62.1% negative sentiments related to the news. Most of the negative mentions from netizens were directed towards Raymond Wong. "In particular, a large number of LIHKG users netizens found Wong's comment to be unwarranted and outdated, as they believe that journalism has evolved from its traditional form and there is room for creativity and entertainment in news reporting," said Charles Cheung, HK GM of CARMA.
Cheung added that some netizens expressed disappointment with Cable TV news for not embracing new ideas and being too rigid in their approach. "They suggested that this lack of innovation and adaptability may be a contributing factor to the company's lack of success in the current media landscape," he said
