Johor chief minister Onn Hafiz Ghazi has reportedly unveiled plans to streamline business procedures and make the state more attractive to investors.

He added that Forest City, an integrated residential development and private town in Johor, was the first to house an investment center outside Kuala Lumpur, reported New Straits Times

The center aims to ease the processes for businesses to establish businesses in Johor, said Onn. It is also part of a broader effort to position the Malaysian state as a key investment hub.

The business reforms come as infrastructure upgrades are underway to support the development of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

Onn reportedly said that projects under JS-SEZ such as the expansion of highways will improve connectivity.

The highway expansions include the highway from Johor Bahru to Desaru in Kota Tinggi, and from Kulai to Ayer Hitam in Batu Pahat.

He reportedly added that the highway will stop at Ayer Hitam to ensure Singaporeans don't leave the state of Johor.

The JS-SEZ has been long in the making, with its creation expected to create up to 100,000 high-paying job opportunities

At the launch of the Johor Student Character Module in conjunction with the Johor International Student Leaders Conference 2024 back in April this year, Onn reportedly said that the collaboration will attract foreign investments and contribute to the economic growth of Johor.

At the same time, the Johor chief minister reportedly urged people to play their part in driving progress in the state.
