Local clothing line Bulan Bintang has released a maiden brand film this Raya, in collaboration with Mediabrands Content Studio (MBCS), the creative content practice within the IPG Mediabrands network.
The film, titled “Raya Macam Star” (translated: celebrate Raya like a star), is a tale that aims to make everyone feel like a star when wearing the Bulan Bintang collection this Raya.
The film tells the tale of Zul who intends to attract an abundance of visitors to his Raya open house, specifically a young lady who has caught his eye. He sets out to don Bulan Bintang’s Baju Melayu on the first day of celebrations. However, unbeknownst to himself, he turns into renowned actor Shukri Yahaya.

The star-studded cast consists of some of Malaysia’s biggest celebrities such as Shukri Yahaya, Hannah Delisha, Sharnaaz Ahmad, Beto Kusyairy, Nadhir Nasar and Daiyan Trisha.
The campaign aims to evoke the key message of what it feels like to wear Bulan Bintang whilst retaining elements of family, duty and love, said Eddy Nazarullah, the creative director of MBCS. "Creating insightful and relevant content is a core aspect of creativity here at MBCS, and we’re delighted to have such a star-studded cast to bring this year’s Raya story to life," he added.
“Fashion is a true connector, and a highlight of festive celebrations. We were very excited to work on our first brand film with the MBCS team, and more so to bring on the star power with our Malaysian A-listers to reflect that feeling of being a star when you’ve got your best outfits on," said Azzim Zahid, the CEO and founder of Bulan Bintang.
The film was directed by Quek Shio, who has directed multiple award-winning adverts, in collaboration with Reservoir World as the production house.
Since its release on April 8, the film has garnered more than 750,000 views on YouTube.
The campaign comes shortly after IPG Mediabrands has appointed Cindy Eliza Vaz as its chief digital officer and Debica Sigamani as its chief talent officer.
In her role as chief digital officer, Vaz will be expanding the digitisation of Mediabrands Malaysia, spearheading the digital transformation efforts to offer a suite of qualitative programmatic, performance and tech solutions. Sigamani’s main role on the other hand will be to drive business growth and success while shaping the company’s talent strategy to push a culture of high performance and engagement. This is in addition to ensuring that a diverse and inclusive workplace is fostered.
