Amazon Web Services (AWS) plans to invest an additional SG$12 billion into its existing cloud infrastructure in Singapore from 2024 to 2028 and has launched a flagship AI programme called 'AWS AI Spring' to enable the adoption of AI across the local economy.
The investment builds on AWS’s previous investment of SG$11.5 billion in the AWS APAC (Singapore) region bringing the total planned investment to over SG$23 billion by 2028 to meet growing customer demand for cloud technology and services in the country.

The new planned investment is estimated to contribute SG$23.7 billion to Singapore’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2028 and support an estimated average of 12,300 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs in local Singapore businesses each year, according to an AWS Economic Impact Study (EIS).
The jobs include those in construction, facility maintenance, engineering, telecommunications, and other jobs within the country’s broader economy that are part of the AWS data centre supply chain in Singapore.
“AWS is doubling down on its cloud infrastructure investments in Singapore from 2024 to 2028 to support customer demand and help reinforce Singapore’s status as an attractive regional innovation launchpad, and a global leader in digital competitiveness,” said Priscilla Chong, country manager, Singapore, AWS.
“It also brings additional contributions to the local economy by AWS, such as upskilling the local digital workforce, developing renewable energy projects, and creating a positive impact in the communities where AWS operates,” she explained.
As AWS aims to support Singapore’s Smart Nation and National AI Strategy 2.0 (NAIS 2.0) goals, it has also collaborated with the Singapore government, public sector organisations, and enterprises on 'AWS AI Spring'.
By working with public organisations, 'AWS AI Spring' seeks to develop industry-first solutions powered by AI and generative AI, which include AI Singapore’s SEA-LION, GovTech Singapore’s Analytics.gov and National Library Board’s StoryGen to name a few.
“With 'AWS AI Spring', we are eager to embark on this collaborative AI journey with the government and customers to unlock the potential of AI and accelerate Singapore’s Smart Nation vision and goal to become a beacon in the international AI field,” said Elsie Tan, country manager, worldwide public sector, Singapore, AWS.
“By leveraging AWS’s broadest and deepest set of artificial intelligence and machine learning services, cloud infrastructure, and networks, AWS will empower local organisations and students with technology and skills to tackle unique challenges, unlock new opportunities, delight customers, and scale in a secure, resilient, and sustainable manner,” she added.
The AI programme comprises six strategic pillars such as the AI Spring public sector' to collaborate on driving AI initiatives within the Singapore government and government agencies to benefit industries and citizens.
Next, AI Spring workforce is a series of AI skilling and professional certification programmes while AI Spring enterprise will drive AI adoption in local enterprises.
Similarly, AI Spring startups aim to nurture core AI startups in Singapore while AI Spring communities seeks to contribute to community development with AI. The last pillar, AI Spring research and development (R&D), aims to drive R&D for and with AI.
As AWS supports Singapore’s digital and economic development, it announced the launch of Amazon Q, a new type of generative artificial intelligence-(AI) powered assistant that is specifically for work and that can be tailored to a customer’s business, last year.
Customers can get fast, relevant answers to pressing questions, generate content, and take actions—all informed by a customer’s information repositories, code, and enterprise systems from the system, it said in a statement.
