Ampersand Advisory carves new competitive edge with new AI division

Malaysian media consultant Ampersand Advisory has launched Ampersand Alpha, a new AI and data management consulting division. The new division will be working with global partners to collaborate and develop New Age Business Intelligence (NABI) offered to Malaysian industries in banking, finance, insurance, securities, energy, telecommunications, retail, CPG and eCommerce clients and prospects, as said in the press statement.

Sonny Dey, partner of Ampersand Alpha will be leading the new arm. Dey said the innovations in digitisation, analytics, artificial intelligence, and automation would create performance and productivity opportunities for Malaysian businesses and the economy, ultimately reshaping employment and the future of work. He also said some Malaysian companies were gaining a competitive edge with the use of data and analytics, which could enable faster and much larger-scale of evidence-based decision making, insight generation, and process optimisation.

“There is clearly room to catch up and to excel. Harnessing digitisation’s potential is similarly uneven. Data and analytics are transformational, yet many companies are capturing only a fraction of their value. Keeping in pace with the next wave of opportunity, Ampersand Alpha will be focusing on keys areas related to topics such as robotics, machine learning and AI,” Dey added.

Meanwhile Sandeep Mark Joseph, co-founder and CEO of Ampersand-Advisory said the company had focused its data offerings into fully customised AI, machine learning, engineering and behavioral science solutions along with platforms for Malaysian Enterprises including SMEs, during this period of uncertainty. He added that the new unit aimed to help reshape client businesses through science and advanced data tools, tapping into the data science and AI industry which was worth at least RM4 billion in Malaysia.

“We remain focused on Ampersand Advisory’s core mission: business results now, for our clients. We are probably the first player in our industry to offer these services, but we do hope others follow suit, as the potential is immense for the country,” Joseph added.

The press release added that Ampersand Alpha was collaborating with a few global universities, local universities and government agencies to encourage and develop young local Malaysian talents in the area of data and AI. Separately, Ampersand Advisory has been targeting consulting and growth of the company. Last year, it brought Shen Yi Loh-Lim onboard as partner, consulting and growth. Loh-Lim brought with him more than 20 years of experience as a digital growth specialist and Internet veteran.
