Malaysian fashion brand Rizman Ruzaini caused quite a stir online this week when British supermodel Naomi Campbell walked the runway to close out the Rizman Ruzaini Spring Summer 2024 show at Dubai Fashion Week.
Campbell donned the now eponymous Naomi cape and dress that features sparkling motifs from the traditional Malay textile Songket. The collection is inspired by the tale of Seri Gumum, a dragon that was rumored to slumber in the waters of Lake Chini, a lake in Pahang Malaysia.

“It's the dream of every designer to have such an iconic supermodel walk for them. But when this became a reality for us, we were delighted at her candor and professionalism,” said the brand on Instagram.
“She is as real as a woman of the world gets, but also magical when she took the runway, on a world-class platform such as Dubai Fashion Week, wearing a Rizman Ruzaini piece,” added the brand.
Rizman Ruzaini was founded by Rizman Nordin and Ruzaini Jamil who were classmates at UiTM (Universiti Teknologi Mara), pursuing degrees in fashion design, as reported by The Star.
Not only are Malaysian labels making waves, but Malaysian models are also making their mark in the fashion world. Last month, beauty powerhouse L'Oréal Paris brought a localised rendition of its globally acclaimed campaign, "Walk your worth" to Malaysia, featuring women of different walks of life.
The fashion show was held at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) 2023. Committed to inspiring women around the world, L'Oréal Paris invited Malaysian women of various backgrounds to walk the show to celebrate diversity. The runway walks featured influential Malaysian personalities such as Malaysian gymnast Farah Ann, entrepreneur Dr Jezamine Lim, ethnic musician Belle Sisoski, founder of the Vitiligo Association Malaysia and Sonya Charles who walked for L'Oréal Paris.
