9GAG creates new marketing director role to expand Memeland community

Hong Kong-based online platform 9GAG has appointed Zeta Lo (pictured) as its new marketing director.  

Within the newly created role, Lo will report to Ray Chan, CEO of 9GAG and Memeland and Kevin Kwong, chief business officer, 9GAG. She will oversee global markets. 

In a conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Lo said with the support of blockchain technology, Memeland is crafting a new cultural paradigm. Lo is responsible for overseeing creative strategies and campaign launch for Memeland, to showcase its culture and spirit as well as to promote its latest products. 

"Whenever anyone needs assistance, it's my responsibility to support the extraordinary talent at Memeland and 9GAG with everything from minor tasks to major events, all in a creative manner. Our pioneer, Chan, never settles for ‘ordinary’; he upholds very high standards, which I deeply value,” Lo added. 

Lo said the role was created to help expand the Memeland community by inviting more people to join and collaboratively build Memeland. “We even created ‘MemeDay’ on 9 June as our ultimate community festival celebrating memes and internet culture!” 

Prior to 9GAG, she was social media and community lead of Web3 infrastructure at KuCoin Exchange. Before that, she also joined local game-making company Index Game as its head of marketing. 

Lo said: “If you never try, you'll never know. Too many play it safe, afraid to step out of their comfort zones. But what good is that zone when it no longer comforts?” 

“This life is fleeting—spend your precious time wisely. Understand yourself, and you’ll know when to walk away and begin anew. Don't fear change, especially when the status quo is no longer satisfied. Be a wise 'investor'," Lo added.

Meanwhile, Memeland has announced the inaugural celebration of MemeDay on 9 June, a day set to celebrate and remind Web3 of the power of community. 

From the original Meme-sayers, 9GAG, the global cross-platform entertainment network with a 200 million global audience to founding it’s web3 venture Memeland, a community of over 10 million people, MemeDay is the vibrant fusion of meme and Web3 culture.

As a community-focused brand, Memeland prioritises its members while embracing the world of memes. MemeDay will serve as a festival of unity, honouring the power of laughter and shared values.
