As the Year of the Dragon kicks in, 7-Eleven has teamed up with Sanrio Hong Kong again to unveil a set of eight poly lucky coin banks, spreading prosperity and good fortune to customers and their loved ones.
Available from today (17 January), the "Sanrio Characters Roly Poly Lucky Coin Banks" series features eight Sanrio characters, including Hello Kitty, Hangyodon, Pompompurin, Minna no Tābō, Ahirunopekkle, Kerokerokeroppi, and Little Twin Stars.
Inspired by the traditional "Daruma Doll" (達摩) and the popular "Lucky Cat” (招財貓), each roly-poly coin bank features a unique blessing written in Chinese, including "Good Luck," "Prosperity," "Wisdom", "Peace", "Health", "Abundance", "Great Fortune" and "Destiny”.
The coin banks are approximately 12cm in height, crafted from 100% recycled plastic and feature a wood-grain texture. Each character is brimming with good fortune and decorated with festive patterns such as peach blossoms, lucky stars and fireworks, according to the release.
Moreover, each coin bank comes with its own lucky coin adorned with another eight Sanrio characters. Customers can place these lucky coins in the coin bank characters' hands.
In addition to the existing eight coin banks, 7-Eleven has launched the exclusive golden special edition Hello Kitty roly-poly coin bank. Paired with a Tiny Chum lucky coin, Hello Kitty gets a makeover in matte gold and red, aiming to signify abundant riches and good fortune. It will be available from 17 January until 1 March at three designated 7-Eleven or 7CAFÉ+ stores.
Additionally, 7-Eleven has unveiled exclusive Chinese New Year sets for yuu members, including the "Plenty & Prosperous" and "Lucky Dragon Year" limited edition coin bank lai see sets. Don't miss: 7-Eleven partners Anna Sui and Sanrio HK to reveal new collab this Christmas
It is not the first time 7-Eleven has partnered with Sanrio and other brands to launch merchandise. Back in November last year, 7-Eleven collaborated with New York fashion brand Anna Sui and Sanrio Hong Kong to launch six Sanrio characters on-the-go mini boxes ahead of the festive season. The collaboration aimed to allow Anna Sui and Sanrio characters’ fans to travel in style and add a festive touch to their Christmas holidays.
A spokesperson from 7-Eleven told MARKETING-INTERACTIVE previously that while the past collaboration with Anna Sui and Sanrio in Taiwan and Japan received support from Sanrio and Anna Sui fans, the brand hopes to extend this success to its Hong Kong audience. This collaboration targets girls, mass 7-Eleven customers, Sanrio fans and Anna Sui fans.
