Local restaurant chain Yue Mic Ka (魚米家) is closing down its final remaining store in Tai Kok Tsui, marking the end of the brand's 24-year run.

According to the Facebook group 全港店舖消息(開張/執笠)關注組 that tracks the opening and closure of retail stores and restaurants in Hong Kong, Yue Mic Ka has posted a closure notice on its last remaining branch.

"Due to the expiration of the lease for the Yue Mic Ka Florient Rise (海桃灣) store, the last day of operation will be 9 pm on 23 June 2024, after which the store will officially close down,” the notice reads.

Meanwhile, the notice has also expressed gratitude to customers for their support over the years.

Established in 2000, Yue Mic Ka is known for its "Shunde-style fish patties in fish broth with vermicelli”. At its peak, the restaurant has over 10 branches across Hong Kong. However, it has gradually closed down most of its locations in recent years, leaving only the last remaining branch in Tai Kok Tsui.

According to HK01, a staff from Yue Mic Ka revealed that the business had experienced a significant decline, with sales volume nearly halving. The staff  attributed this to the possibility that more Hongkongers have been travelling and dining in the mainland, noting that the business has become worse even after the pandemic.

There has been an uptick in the number of retail chains and restaurant groups shutting down operations this year. Recently, local restaurant Café De JarGor (大渣哥茶記) has decided to shutter its remaining two stores, according to its social media pages.

In April, Hong Kong-based conglomerate Dah Chong Hong (大昌行) (DCH) ceased operations of its 28 DCH Foods’ (大昌行食品) retail stores. Earlier this year, local bakery Dang Wen Li by Dominique Ansel also shut its operations in Hong Kong, including its flagship store at H Queen's in Central and boutique store at Admiralty's Pacific Place.
