Wunderman Thompson HK names Maggie Wong CEO

Wunderman Thompson Hong Kong has named Maggie Wong (pictured) as the CEO. Wong joins Wunderman Thompson from Publicis Worldwide & Leo Burnett, where she led the agency to significant growth as managing director of the Hong Kong operation. She starts her role late October.

In her time there, Wong created an inspiring multi-disciplinary team, landed high profile new business wins and kick-started data-led initiatives for global and local clients.  With over 17 years of experience, Wong has worked with established international brands across various industries including Expedia, Lexus, Pizza Hut, HKT and Standard Chartered.

Wong said, “Wunderman Thompson Hong Kong has established an excellent base with a diverse blend of talents and capabilities to turbocharge the next chapter of growth. I’m hugely excited to be joining the wonderful team and by the prospect of what we can achieve together.”

Ewen Sturgeon, Wunderman Thompson International APAC CEO said: “We’re very excited to see Maggie join us and bring her own brand of leadership and experience to the network. A talented and ambitious leader, Maggie has the right focus on creativity, data, and experience to continue growing the Hong Kong office.”

The news comes after former managing director Matthew Parry joins Wunderman Thompson Sydney as managing director.  “Parry leaves to Wong a strong and successful agency, with a great team and clients. And I’m thrilled that Matt continues to grow his career in the Wunderman Thompson network,” Sturgeon added. Sturgeon took on the role of Wunderman Thompson's APAC CEO recently following the departure of Annette Male who joined Facebook, Sturgeon takes on additional responsibility for the agency's Asia Pacific operations. 

Sturgeon will work with Wunderman Thompson leaders across Asia Pacific to continue accelerating growth in the region, which comprises 27 offices in 17 countries including Australia, China, Indian, Japan, Shanghai, Thailand and Vietnam. Wunderman Thompson’s Asia Pacific and EMEA regions will remain structurally and operationally separate, with leaders for each business unit reporting directly into Sturgeon. He joined the agency in May 2019 from Publicis.Sapient where he was chief operating officer for Asia Pacific and EMEA. Before that, he was international CEO of Digitas for four years, where he was closely involved in launching and growing the agency’s business across Asia Pacific and EMEA.

Most recently,  Aadit Bimbhet, former ASEAN head of D2C eCommerce at Reckitt, also joined Wunderman Thompson Asia Pacific as regional commerce director. Bimbhet will help grow the agency's commerce capability and continue to deliver seamless commerce solutions for clients that bridge the gap between inspiration and conversion.
