Wellcome and Market Place, supermarket chains under DFI Retail Group, have partnered with foodpanda Hong Kong to provide customers with up to 5,000 items available for delivery in 45 minutes.

The items available on foodpanda HK platform include a wide range of products such as fresh food, snacks, ice-cream, beverages, groceries. Wellcome and Market Place are also offering discounts on selected items when customers spend a certain amount on foodpanda.

The collaboration with foodpanda is Wellcome’s first partnership with a delivery platform to serve all walks of life in Hong Kong, aiming to accelerate eCommerce and enhance customer experience.

To celebrate the partnership, foodpanda’s brand ambassador Pau-Pau will visit selected Wellcome and Market Place stores on the first and second weekends of June and distribute gifts to consumers.

To maximise launch awareness and interest, the partnership has leveraged Wellcome and Market Place's store network, along with omnichannel marketing to drive conversions and advocacy. It has adopted instore exposure with Pau-Pau and key messaging, from the front of the store, through the aisles to the checkout.

Moreover, over 10 Wellcome and Market Place stores have been decorated in foodpanda's signature pink branding. foodpanda will also launch a themed WhatsApp sticker set soon. Further details on these initiatives will be released on foodpanda's Facebook page.

To further promote the partnership, a comprehensive marketing mix, including social media marketing, digital advertising, DOOH advertising, PR and full use of Wellcome and foodpanda media assets, is adopted.

Apart from the partnership with foodpanda, Wellcome has recently upgraded and launched its online shop, aiming to provide customers greater flexibility. Customers can enjoy free delivery on purchases over HK$500, and for purchases above HK$150, customers can enjoy free click and collect service, allowing them to pick up orders at over 200 designated stores.

Darren Chan (pictured left), managing director, food (Hong Kong and Macau), DFI Retail Group, said: “Wellcome and Market Place always strive to serve customers better with fresh, quality produce and groceries at great value. With the growing trend of cross-platform shopping, we are accelerating our eCommerce development and enhancing the O2O (online to offline) customer journey by synergising our online and offline channels.”

“We are excited to join hands with foodpanda to reach out to a wider audience in the quick commerce space. With foodpanda’s digital network, robust technology infrastructure and flexible and fast delivery service, we will be able to offer our customers a faster, fresher and easier grocery shopping experience,” Chan added.

Ryan Lai (pictured right), chief executive officer of foodpanda Hong Kong said, “Having been in Hong Kong for 10 years, foodpanda has always been dedicated to providing a one-stop shop for food and grocery delivery service. In recent years, we have been committed to growing our quick-commerce capabilities, enhancing our lifestyle and grocery offerings on foodpanda mall for our customers.”

“We always strive to collaborate with popular local retail brands, and are excited to be able to partner with one of Hong Kong’s leading and longest-established supermarket chains, Wellcome, and Market Place, greatly strengthening our brand portfolio, bringing a selection of diverse and high-quality products for customers. This strategic partnership also enhances the customer experience for both parties, and furthers our development within the retail quick-commerce space.
