Visa has tied up with EVOS Esports as part of its first foray into Southeast Asia's esports scene. Under the partnership, Visa will be used as the preferred payment solution when fans apply for EVOS Esports' membership. The esports organisation will also enable payments via Visa for in-game currency purchases and its merchandise.
According to EVOS Esports, the strategic collaboration is in line with its "Unlock Your Dreams" campaign. Through this campaign, Visa will also empower EVOS Esports' fans to live their dreams. While the spokesperson declined to reveal the monetary amount of the partnership, he told Marketing Interactive that it will be rolling out additional activations, fan engagement initiatives and videos featuring VISA and EVOS Esports' brand messaging.
Riko Abdurrahman, president director of Visa Worldwide Indonesia, said its recent study showed that spending habits and behaviours are shifting in an accelerated manner towards cashless payments during this period.
"In line with our vision to be the best way to pay and be paid, for everyone, everywhere, Visa believes in enabling the seamless payment experience to enhance the esports eco-system in Indonesia, and powering EVOS Esports’ ‘Unlock Your Dreams’ in this collaboration is testament to that," he said.
Meanwhile, co-founder and chief business officer of EVOS Esports, Hartman Harris, said Visa understands the power of esports and gaming as an excellent platform to engage with the younger generation of Millennials and Gen Z. "Esports is no longer just child's play but has developed into a US$1 billion industry globally," he added.
