US egg sandwich chain Eggslut is exiting the Hong Kong market after less than two years, with its Causeway Bay store's last day of operation on 23 February.

Eggslut has thanked Hongkongers for their support on its Instagram and Facebook pages. “We are deeply grateful to Hong Kong and all Hongkongers for your support. The long queues, the joy on our customers’ faces, and every like and share online—these moments will forever be in our hearts.”

“Now, we must say goodbye for the time being. When the right moment comes, we will regroup and return, and we hope to see all of your smiling faces once again,” it said.

Eggslut's Facebook post has received over 840 likes and 50 comments, according to a check by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE. While some netizens expressed sadness over CRcare's closure, some said they hope for a quick return.

Back in June 2023, Eggslut made its debut in Hong Kong, marking the brand's fourth market in Asia following Singapore, South Korea, and Japan. Its store is located at the ground floor of Fashion Walk shopping mall in Causeway Bay. Founded by Alvin Cailan in 2011, the US chain is known for its egg sandwich made with a brioche bun, coddled egg and sriracha mayo sauce. The brand is headquartered in California and has five stores in Los Angelas, Las Vegas, Venice, Glendale, West Hollywood, as well as international stores in Singapore, Korea, Japan and U.K., according to its website.

Don’t miss: Japanese souffle pancake house A Happy Pancake shuts down its last store in HK

This is not the first departure of a brand from Hong Kong’s retail scene that we have seen in recent times. Just yesterday (5 February), Transformers: The Ark Restaurant announced that it would close its outlet on Russell Street this Saturday (8 February) and relocate to Shenzhen on 1 May.

Back in December last year, Japanese souffle pancake house A Happy Pancake (幸福Pancake) shut down its final location in Causeway Bay after six years of operation in Hong Kong. Similarly, CR Pharmaceutical Group’s healthcare chain CRcare (華潤堂) closed all of its 19 branches in Hong Kong due to external uncertainties and various operational challenges. Additionally, Chicago popcorn chain Garrett Popcorn Shops also closed its doors in October.
