Uber Hong Kong has launched a programme to offer rides to healthcare professionals and supporting staff of hospitals of the Hospital Authority. The company said it will be pledging HK$1 million worth of 10,000 Uber Taxi rides, supporting Hong Kong’s fight against its worst wave of the pandemic.

Estyn Chung, general manager of Uber Hong Kong said, “This has been one of the toughest yet waves we have experienced in Hong Kong, and our healthcare workers are working around the clock, dedicating their best efforts to help our community. A comfortable and safe journey can give them a moment to recharge, and at times like this, we want to do our part to help. Uber Hong Kong is happy to once again partner with the Hospital Authority to support healthcare workers during this unprecedented time.”

Meanwhile, foodpanda Hong Kong is also offering a new series of supporting measures, amounting to a total investment of up to HK$3 million which includes the donation of over 12,000 food vouchers for people in need, as well as specific initiatives for restaurant and shop vendors, and its couriers.

The food vouchers will be donated to 15 local charities including Food Angel, Foodlink Foundation, ImpactHK, Hong Chi Association, Concern for Grassroots Livelihood Alliance and Tuen Mun District Women's Association, to name a few.

Moreover, foodpanda Hong Kong will be rolling out various assistance initiatives backed by up to HK$2 million investment, including waived monthly listing fee for restaurant partners, a dedicated express registration link for F&B staff to apply to join as couriers, free distribution of 7,000 rapid COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits for couriers, and an extension of couriers' COVID-19 insurance plan.

"As members of the Hong Kong community ourselves, our entire team is dedicated to rallying together to find ways to give back to the local public and support our stakeholders, providing temporary relief measures for some. Apart from providing additional support through various initiatives, we hope that we can also encourage others within the industry to roll out support measures too, as we all fight to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic together," said Ryan Lai, managing director of foodpanda Hong Kong.
