U Mobile's head of digital services marketing, Adam Lee, is leaving after nearly four years to take on the newly created role of head of marketing, communications and branding at Sathapana Bank. He told A+M that he took on this role to help transform Sathapana into a leading commercial bank in Cambodia.

"My time at U Mobile, Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia and GoPro have given me a lot of opportunities to build things from the ground up and transform brands. The banking industry is going through a lot of changes now so it’s an exciting space to be in," he explained. Lee (pictured) also hopes to bring in new perspectives to work and contribute to Sathapana's growth and success. He will oversee a team of more than 30 individuals and report to chief transformation officer, Jennifer Lee.

During his tenure at U Mobile, Lee was responsible for commercial brand and marketing management for new digital services covering financial services and enterprise, his LinkedIn said.

In a LinkedIn post, Lee thanked his team for an amazing chapter and said when he first joined the telco, he imagined what kind of team he would put together. "That moment began the journey of a lifetime, not just for me but for all of us," he said.

Together, he and his team launched GoPayzMY, GoBizMY and WeChat Go, among others. "We transformed U Mobile from a vibrant telco that competes primarily on price into a digital services-centric organisation competing on having the best partners and ecosystems," he added.

While he is looking forward to a new adventure ahead, Lee said he cannot help but look back every now and then "as the curtain draws close behind [him]". U Mobile declined to comment on A+M's queries.

Lee was previously with Malaysia Airlines as creative director where he oversaw creative strategy and brand management, as well as marketing communication campaign management, his LinkedIn said. He also worked at GoPro as photo asset manager, Asia Pacific and AirAsia as head of photography.

Meanwhile, U Mobile also witnessed another change in its marketing team last year when CMO Jasmine Lee took on the role of CDO after eight years. As CDO, Lee is responsible for building and exploring new opportunities in the digital space, creating new digital experiences as well as data-driven solutions that would benefit customers.
