As the year comes to an end, Yahoo has released its ‘Year in Review 2022’, which spotlights all the top news and topics from the year that has been on the minds of Singapore folks. From the top tech brands to the most searched local celebrities, Yahoo’s Year in Review 2022 is a roundup of the things that have captured the attention of users in Singapore. Let’s take a look.
Leading the top tech brands is Google, followed closely by Microsoft. With the release of its Pixel 7 series, Google made its foray into wearables and to the top of the tech brand list. Coming in third is Amazon, the eCommerce retailer.
As the world fully opened up post-pandemic and travel restrictions eased, frequency of travel picked up too. Yahoo’s Year in Review also captured the most searched online travel portals and general travel-related searches. AirAsia leads the list of most searched online travel portals, while Singapore-based while Agoda and Skyscanner came in second and third respectively.
Even as borders opened up worldwide, Singaporeans looked for local and convenient holiday options - staycations and cruise trips were popular among users looking for their getaways. Local hotel and resort, Shangri-La Singapore topped the list, followed by Resorts World Sentosa and Genting Dream Cruise. Nearby destinations in neighbouring countries, Malaysia and Indonesia were also popular with Desaru Beach Resorts and Bintan Island Resorts coming in the sixth and 10th positions.
According to Yahoo, the beauty industry also got a boost this year. French multinational retail giant, Sephora came in first for the top five beauty products of the year, with its newly opened cashless “store of the future”. Kiehl’s, an apothecary brand, and Innisfree, a K-Beauty cult favourite followed closely, coming in second and third on the list.
The list also rounded up who Singapore’s most searched local celebrities of the year were. The list was categorised into male and female celebrities. Topping the male celebrity list was actor Lawrence Wong, followed by local ex-actor Ix Shen, Singaporean singer JJ Lin and Singaporean actor Desmond Tan. Actresses Felicia Chin, Rebecca Lim, Zoe Tay and Joanne Peh came in top three on the list of female celebrities who were most searched this year.
To develop Yahoo’s Year in Review, the team is said to have analysed users’ anonymised interest patterns on what was searched.
