United International Pictures Malaysia (UIP) has put a 3D twist to the Top Gun: Maverick movie by showcasing snippets of it in a 3D anamorphic format on the screen outside Pavilion KL. The display showcases adrenaline-pumping scenes of fighter jets carrying out stunts and actor Tom Cruise speeding down a track on his motorcycle. It will run for two weeks until 5 June and Malaysia is among the 10 countries going live with this initiative including Singapore, Australia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Spain, Taiwan, UK and US.
The 3D screen is owned by Brandavision and its director, business, Suzanne Chai, told A+M that the team is delighted to be part of UIP's first initiative to showcase the Top Gun: Maverick movie in 3D anamorphic format. "We are happy that the OOH landscape has levelled up with more brands exploring 3D anamorphic content, flaunting their very own creativity and attractiveness in Malaysia," she added.
The video also featured Top Gun fans from the Royal Malaysian Airforce who were present during the launch of the 3D video. They attended the launch in their personal capacity. Top Gun: Maverick is the long-awaited sequel to the 1986 classic and brings back Cruise who continues to push the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.
Separately, the Republic of Singapore Air Force recently unveiled a Top Gun-like recruitment ad with fast cuts and scenes of fighter jets weaving. The ad also celebrates the female fighter pilots in the force, taking viewers from an animated environment into the real world. Done together with BLKJ Havas, the ad will run in cinemas, OOH, digital, and social for the next three months before dovetailing into follow-up executions.
