Beloved cat and mouse duo, Tom and Jerry, are set to take their rivalry through Singapore in their first ever localised series produced in Asia and in association with Warner Bros. Animation, according to a statement by Warner Bros. Discovery.

The new series comprises seven episodes that are each three minutes long and that will premiere on Cartoon Network in Asia Pacific and HBO GO in Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Hong Kong later this year, with plans for an international roll out. Its pilot episode will be dropping in August.

“This series brings back the iconic music and classic animation style from the Hanna-Barbera 1950s era – but with a modern Singaporean twist,” said Christopher Ho, head of kids, Southeast Asia at Warner Bros. Discovery.

“With distinctive landmarks, backdrops and atmosphere, the Asian city-state is the ideal location to create a humorous addition to the Tom and Jerry canon,” he continued.

Produced by Warner Bros. Discovery’s Carlene Tan and led by Vivek Bolar, the series is animated by Aum Animation Studios India, with stories and designs from Singapore-based Robot Playground Media and Chips and Toon Studios.

There are also plans to complement the series with the launch of Tom and Jerry-branded consumer products later this year.

“Tom and Jerry are two of our most universally loved characters, proving that laughs can translate to any audience,” said Vishnu Athreya, senior vice president of series, Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios.

“The fans in Asia have long embraced these characters and it’s great to finally give them a version to call their own,” Athreya added.

Tom and Jerry is a franchise in the Warner Bros. Discovery portfolio with an 83-year history that spans over 500 episodes and 15 movies.

Warner Bros. Discovery has been ramping up its Asian expansion efforts as they recently rebranded its children’s TV channel Boomerang to Cartoonito in SEA, Taiwan and Hong Kong to appeal to younger viewers, following the positive feedback towards the Cartoonito-branded block on Boomerang and Cartoon Network launched in 2022.

The new full regional channel offering will focus on being more inclusive towards its pre-school aged viewers and promises a diverse slate of original series and modern preschool adaptations that support each child’s potential such as Batwheels and Bugs Bunny Builders. The linear Boomerang channel will be rebranded as Cartoonito on all platforms across Southeast Asia from 28 July, available in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Thai, Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia
