Tokio Marine Life Insurance Malaysia has launched the JomVaccine campaign for all Malaysians including non-customers. The campaign offers free coverage for any Malaysian who experiences adverse side effects resulting from their COVID-19 vaccinations. The campaign is an additional initiative under the RM5 million Tokio Marine Medical Assistance Fund, which was launched earlier this year to help ease the burden of customers.
The fund will cover hospital admission fees due to vaccination side effects during the prescribed period or when the RM5 million fund has been fully utilised. The company said that this initiative is designed to provide assistance to eligible customers who have individual medical plans that do not cover COVID-19, such as medical plans with general exclusion on communicable diseases that require quarantine by law. Tokio Marine has also extended the benefit to 30 September 2021 as it is continuing to monitor the progress of the virus, as said on its website.
According to Tokio Marine, it saw the growing importance and urgency of vaccination with the recent hike in COVID-19 cases. Therefore, the insurance company wanted to “encourage anak-anak Malaysia to get vaccinated by supporting in terms of medical expenses, daily income or condolence payout, if any there are any serious adverse effects or events that result from the vaccination,” said Tokio Marine.
Toi See Jong,CEO of Tokio Marine Life Insurance Malaysia said that the company “Looks Beyond Profit” and acts with integrity for the benefit of its customers, business partners and society. “We are pleased to extend our support to all anak-anak Malaysia to walk through this storm together. As Malaysians, it’s our duty to take care of each other,” added Toi.
Tokio Marine Life Insurance is not the only brand in Malaysia to roll out initiatives to encourage citizens to get vaccinated. Streaming platform iQIYI recently tied up with Malaysia's COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force to hand out approximately RM1.5 million worth of iQIYI VIP subscriptions to Malaysians nationwide who have been vaccinated. Under the partnership, more than 3,000 titles of Asian content in iQIYI's platform will be made free to vaccinated Malaysians. Earlier last month, Nestle provided free meals for the frontliners at the Vaccination Administration Centre for AstraZeneca at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC), while also sharing "goodness packs" among those vaccinated. Grab Malaysia also showed its support to help senior citizens travel to and from authorised vaccination centres nationwide.
Meanwhile, across the border in Singapore, Gojek also launched a similar initiative by providing each user with two $15 vouchers to and from any of the MOH vaccination centres. Shake Shack is also giving out free fries with every burger purchase to customers that have received at lease one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
