Tell Uncle Roger how single you are and win a free meal for Valentine's Day

Malaysian comedian, YouTuber and restauranter Nigel Ng, best known for portraying a middle-aged Cantonese character Uncle Roger, will be giving away a free meal to eight lucky Malaysians. The catch? They have to share how single they are this Valentine's Day, a prestigious day to celebrate love.

Earlier this week, Ng took to Instagram to unveil the unique giveaway on his restaurant's page, "FUIYOH! It's UNCLE ROGER". "It's that time of year again when single people are reminded of how single they are," the caption read. Ng noted the same sentiments and shared how he wanted to "celebrate all single people out there," said the statement.

To enter the giveaway, users must simply comment how single they are to stand a chance to win a free meal at one of Ng's restaurants. The eight lucky winners will also receive a special souvenir. The contest will end on 10 February.

Fans were quick to share their humorous reasons for being single. A check by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE saw on Instagram that one user said, "I am so single that even GrabFood riders text me more than my crush" while another said, "I am so single even my shadow left me."

A+M has reached out to Ng for more information.

After conquering the YouTube and comedy realm, Ng entered Malaysia's food scene in September last year. In July 2024, Ng announced the opening of his new restaurant in a video of him reacting to late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain eating in Malaysia, where he made commentary praising Malaysian food.

“If you like food you have to travel to Uncle Roger country [Malaysia], because so many ingredient[s] we don’t export, you can’t get it out of any other country,” said Ng.

He then makes a segway to a “secret” announcement halfway through the video. “By the way, another reason you should go to Malaysia is that Uncle Roger actually [is] going to open my very first restaurant, coming soon later this year,” he said.

Ng's restaurant isn't the only brand jumping on the Valentine's Day trend. Across Malaysia's shores, Pizza Hut Singapore will be closing the entirety of its Marina Square restaurant on 13 February to offer one lucky couple an intimate and private "closed door" candlelit dinner this Valentine's Day. The evening aims to be a symphony of love, with a live violinist serenading the lucky couple for one hour, while they are served a delectable spread from a menu curated just for them.

Additionally, a designed photo station, complete with a polaroid camera and markers, will allow the couple to capture and personalise their memories. Tables will be dressed in fresh flowers and heart-shaped candles, and the romantic ambience will be captured as part of a commemorative video of the couple’s pizza date.
