Telkomsel (through its subsidiary Telkomsel Ekosistem Digital) and GoTo (through Aplikasi Multimedia Anak Bangsa), have partnered up in a joint venture to strengthen the development of the gaming industry in Southeast Asia, under the brand name Majamojo. With an aim to become the leading gaming publisher in Indonesia, Majamojo will focus on mobile game development in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

Majamojo will also look to form partnerships with third-party game developers, while leveraging Telkomsel Ekosistem Digital and GoTo’s strengths, including their digital capabilities, technology assets, and wide-reaching ecosystems.

Telkomsel said in a statement that the latest partnership will continue to drive its transformation to become the leading telco company in Indonesia. By tapping onto GoTo’s far-reaching ecosystem, Telkomsel Ekosistem Digital will be able to explore more opportunities and empower more stakeholders in the gaming industry. Telkomsel Ekosistem Digital will also continue to accelerate the development of Indonesia’s digital ecosystem, bringing the benefits of digital technology in every aspect of life, to all levels of society.

Telkomsel Ekosistem Digital CEO, Andi Kristianto said that its goal is to maximise the advantages of Telkomsel's assets and capabilities to grow Majamojo’s position in the gaming ecosystem. "We are optimistic about the role Majamojo can play, contributing to the development of the gaming industry and the digital ecosystem in Indonesia and Southeast Asia," he added.

A gaming and esports research for Indonesia 2021, by Decision Lab and comms agency Vero, revealed that at least 52 million Indonesians play games consistently. The gaming scene in Indonesia is dominated by Millennials between 26 to 37 years old, 68% of whom have an average income of IDR10 million per month. Furthermore, a report by game research companies, Newzoo and Niko Partners, mobile games in Southeast Asia grew by 180% between 2014-2017, and is predicted to continue to grow over the next five years. Shibuya Data Count also estimates that the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of the gaming industry in Southeast Asia will reach 8.5% in 2020-2025.

GoTo’s head of strategic partnerships Reggy Susanto said that the joint venture will enable both companies to leverage greater opportunities in the gaming industry, which holds great potential in an increasingly digital-first world. "Over the past few years, both of us have established very close collaborations, with a common commitment to develop an inclusive digital ecosystem in Indonesia. By expanding our collaboration, we will make it even easier for everyone to access digital products and services from GoTo and Telkomsel, so that we can better meet the needs of the growing mobile-first market in Indonesia," he added.
