Suria KLCC's CNY decor compared to Tomb Sweeping Festival by netizens

Suria KLCC's Chinese New Year pagoda decoration placed outside its mall has caused a chatter online, with several netizens commenting that it is "Qingming-like". The Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb Sweeping Festival, is a Chinese Festival observed in Southeast Asia.
In a series of comments on Facebook page, Malaysia Shopping Mall, some said the pagoda reminded them of a temple while others joked that the decoration can be recycled and burnt during the Qingming Festival. Meanwhile, some also asked if Suria KLCC was on a budget and wondered how a major shopping mall even came up with such decorations. A handful also requested for Suria KLCC's management to be mindful of other cultures and seek clarification if they are unclear, adding that the design is unauspicious, calling it "lazy" and "uncultured" instead.
Suria KLCC's spokesperson declined to comment when approached by A+M. According to Suria KLCC in a press statement, the pagoda is Malaysia's tallest replica, standing at 70-feet-tall and was brought back after being introduced in 2020. The structure will be available until 13 February.

Meanwhile, the mall welcomed Chinese New Year by turning its premises into a royal palace setting. Inspired by beautiful garden landscapes, the Centre Court was transformed into an ancient Chinese palace. This grand imperial feel extends all the way to Level 1 of Ramlee Mall and major entrances.
According to Suria KLCC, the palace at Centre Court is set within a period of Chinese history known for progress, innovation and widely celebrated as the golden age of cultural advancements.
The ancient Chinese palace was recreated with great attention paid to the finest details, including the placement of stone-carved imperial guardian lions, garden pavilions in traditional Chinese architecture, the lotus pond, beautiful hanging red lanterns, the iconic pink cherry blossoms, as well as the intricate landscaping to provide a backdrop for photos and videos.
All the Instagrammable corners in the mall are also complemented by a photo booth with a photo print-out for shoppers. At the same time, there will also be interactive exhibits that trigger light shows, displaying visual flowers inside the palace at the Centre Court to herald the arrival of Spring.
Additionally, its Suria KLCC's Shoppers Reward Programme will be handing out RM100 Suria KLCC shopping vouchers and a set of Suria KLCC red packets to consumers who spend at least RM1,500. It will also continue to financially support the Mental Health Awareness programme through funds generated from the ongoing ribbon pin sales that began in 2021.
