Sun Ferry has handed location-based adtech startup Move Hub the exclusive concession rights to operate its advertising media. The appointment will last for three years.

Upon the appointment, Move Hub will provide services covering 7 piers (including Central Pier 5, Central Pier 6, Cheung Chau Pier, Mui Wo Pier, North Point Pier, Hung Hom Pier and Kowloon City Pier) and 18 vessels.

Move Hub's concession rights cover pier and vessel advertising platforms within Sun Ferry’s network. The diversified advertising formats at the piers, as well as the advertising spaces on vessels (including interior and exterior), provide advertisers a promotional platform to capture the attention of both local residents and tourists, especially with interests in Cheung Chau, Mui Wo, island excursions, outdoor activities, ferry travel, beaches, hiking, vacations and water sports.

In a conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Move Hub's spokesperson said the agency was chosen because of its alignment with Sun Ferry's goals. Both companies aim to promote destinations such as Cheung Chau and Mui Wo islands and support green tourism initiatives in Hong Kong.

This collaboration between Move Hub and Sun Ferry is expected to introduce location-based advertising in ferry transportation, providing advertisers with a unique and effective promotional platform, said the spokesperson. It also targets advertising opportunities focused on specific islands, catering to the interests and preferences of local and overseas tourists.

Furthermore, the partnership aims to increase visibility for outdoor activities lovers and island hoppers, as the advertising media will capture their attention during ferry travel. Overall, this partnership will bring new dimensions to the advertising or media industry in Hong Kong, offering innovative ways to reach wider audiences and enhancing the effectiveness of promotional campaigns.

Currently, Sun Ferry operates five inner harbour and outlying island ferry routes locally, including North Point–Hung Hom and North Point–Kowloon City, as well as Central-Cheung Chau, Central-Mui Wo and Inter Islands. The company owns a fleet of 18 vessels, servicing 10 million passengers annually between urban areas and outlying islands, according to the release.

Commenting on the appointment, Emily Lau, founder and commercial director of Move Hub, said: “We are delighted to be awarded the exclusive rights. Sun Ferry’s advertising media has unique geographical and interest attributes.”

“Leveraging Move Hub’s expertise in location-based advertising and our innovative capabilities, combined with Sun Ferry’s extensive network and passenger base, we are confident this will open up more opportunities for brands to reach wider audiences,” she added.
