Starbucks China has introduced a new drink to mark the Lunar New Year. Named “Abundant Year Savory Latte”, the new product combines the pork flavor with latte, was launched along with other three drinks of the same series.

According to the description of the Starbucks delivery app, the drink is made with espresso, steaming milk, Dongpo Braised Pork Flavor Sauce, and extra pork sauce and pork breast flesh as garnish. The drink is priced at 68 yuan ($9.45), according to the app.

"A wonderful savoury and sweet taste are constructed by a collision of carefully chosen concentrates and Dongpo Braised Pork flavors, satisfying the taste buds' curiosity to explore," quoted by Starbucks China’s WeChat platform. This drink is now available at Starbucks Reserve stores across the country.

The new pork latte has quickly gone viral on Chinese social media. While some people expressed curiosity, others were skeptical about the expensive cost.

According to research published in December by World Coffee Portal, China has surpassed the United States as the largest market for branded coffee shops worldwide.

According to the company, Starbucks opened 785 locations nationwide in 2023. China is Starbucks' top overseas market and second-largest global market, making it one of the company's main growth drivers.

Reported by Jiupai News, a website affiliated with the state-run Changjiang Daily, the drink had sold out at one store in Wuhan.

Along with the pork flavor, Starbucks also launched other three new flavors with the Lunar New Year theme, according to the Shanghai Reserve Roastery’s Weibo account.
