Spotify users curate COVID-19 playlists

They say music can be therapeutic. And users on Spotify seem to be heeding those words. While the world continues to fight the COVID-19 spread, with new cases emerging every single day, users on Spotify are taking a rather creative approach to this curating a playlist with songs relating to the virus.

A quick search on Spotify by Marketing showed the playlists with songs such as Britney Spears’ Toxic, FUTURE’s Mask Off, Travis Scott’s SICKO MODE, The Police’s Don’t Stand So Close To Me have all been put together to entertain the Spotify community. Created by a Singaporean user named Alistair Ryan, the playlist is called "COVID-19 Quarantine Party". With over 50,000 followers, the playlist has over 75 songs. The curator also openly shared his Instagram handle for others to send in song requests. Similarly, other users on Spotify too jumped on the opportunity to create playlists.

The playlist has been shared online by netizens from the Philippines to Africa. When contacted by Marketing, Spotify declined to provide any comments.

The COVID-19 outbreak has sent several on panic mode, and saw major cities in the world on lockdown due to the rapidly increasing cases. The World Health Organisation too has declared the virus pandemic. In Singapore, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong addressed the nation yesterday evening to allay fears and encouraging members of the public to stay united. He also assured that nation that we will not yet be raising the DORSCON status to red and the government is working towards aiding companies and businesses to keep afloat.

Meanwhile, in the past Spotify has been keeping up with the times through its own playlists. During the haze season, the music streaming platform launched a playlist titled "Hazed & Confused" featuring a series of songs such as "No Air", "Harder to Breathe", "thank u, next", "We Didn't Start The Fire", "Hijau", "Ruin My Life", "Bad Day", "Every Breath You Take", "Work From Home", "Breathless", "Eyes On Fire" and "Oxygen Mask".
