Sony Music Entertainment has launched its first recording studio in Southeast Asia, and it is located in Jakarta. This furthers SME’s commitment to the development of artists and creators across the region through the launch of a new world-class facility.

The studio is equipped with advanced immersive sound capabilities for artists to mix their recordings in leading spatial audio formats, including Dolby Atmos. These audio solutions give creators new ways to express themselves and offer listeners high-quality 3D sound experiences that match the artist’s original studio vision.

In addition to music recording and production, the space has multifunctional capabilities that support the creation of audio and visual content for social platforms. It also can host livestreams and in-person performance sessions, providing talent with a platform to showcase their artistry both in market and for online audiences globally.

“The launch of the first Southeast Asia studio in our global network showcases our passion and commitment for ensuring that artists and creators in Indonesia, and across Southeast Asia, have access to a world-class recording and production space,” said Muhammad Soufan, general manager at Sony Music Entertainment Indonesia.

“With the addition of spatial audio mixing capabilities for formats including Dolby Atmos and other state-of-the-art technologies, we are ensuring that artists here can fully realise their creative vision and share their creations with the world as they were intended to be experienced,” he added.

The initiative also comes in line with the digital audio market trend in the APAC region. A report by Research Nester titled "Digital audio workstation market size, growth trends 2023-2035" revealed that the digital audio market in Asia Pacific is estimated to have the highest share of 29% by the end of 2035.

This growth could be attributed to the growing number of musicians in this region. Furthermore, the consumption of mobile phones in this region is high and mobile phones are the largest used gadgets for streaming music.
