Skyscanner curates destination-led music list on Spotify to emulate travel
share on
It goes without saying that music is often our biggest means of escape. Listening to our favourite tracks have the power to elevate us, comfort us, and transport us somewhere else entirely. As the saying goes, one song can define a whole holiday and then take you straight back to it, years afterwards.
As such, Skyscanner has curated personalised Spotify playlists that capture travel memories and define some favourite destinations. Thus far, the travel company has come up with eight playlists with titles ranging from “Indie Indoors” that take listeners from of Paris to the shrines of Kyoto to party playlists from music festivals in its “Front room festival" playlist. There are also songs suited for house parties, electronic and folk songs. The playlists are due to be released on a weekly basis, and will be made available on Skyscanner’s Spotify profile. With these playlists, Skyscanner wants to help individuals stuck at home to still explore the world.
The list of Spotify playlists is part of Skyscanner's bigger #WeWill campaign, which aims to encourage hope, positivity and optimism in its travellers. Besides the curated playlists, the company has also released a one-minute video telling viewers that they "will get through this" and that after the crisis, Skyscanner "will still be here" for them. Additionally, Skyscanner got its employees and travellers to share stories of where they will go and who they will visit using #WeWill across social media platforms. Marketing has reached out for additional information.
Let’s take a look at Skyscanner's song choices:
Head to a festival
…Albeit in your garden, with the biggest headline acts from the last decade, live from music festivals around the world.
Alternatively, you could have a party within your walls with some raving house music from this playlist.
Go deep into electronic worlds
Sounds in this playlist may just help you focus on work, and take on a whole new life when you’re chilling out or walking on a bleak Winter’s day. If you’re feeling your way into ambient or experimental electronic music, start with these artists.
Travelling folk
Full of mostly North American inspired music, this playlist sounds just as good at home, as it does on a long road trip.
"Travel" overseas to Korea, Africa, and Brazil
So you are not able to travel for now, but fret not, Skyscanner is here to transport you to another country.
Explore the world within your homes
If just travelling to a specific country is not your cup of tea, why not explore the world with this playlist containing sounds from England, Paris, Italy, Kyoto, and more?
Jo McClintock, global brand director at Skyscanner, said with its campaign, it wants to spread optimism for the future and reassure them that when their dreams become reality again, Skyscanner will be here to help. “It might seem like an unusual time to talk about being positive. Many people are separated from loved ones and we’re unable to get out in the world as we would like. But it’s well known that positivity is a key part of successfully coping in a crisis," McClintock added.
