Study: 56% of Singaporeans will turn to television to watch the Paris 2024 Olympics

As the 2024 Olympics kicks off, 56% of Singaporeans who plan to watch it will tune into TV broadcasts to keep up with the games.
Meanwhile, nearly half of Singaporeans (46%) will follow social media updates and two in five (41%) will opt for coverage in newspapers or news sites. This is according to a recent study by YouGov which surveyed 1001 adults in Singapore.
According to the study, 39% of Singaporeans will keep up with the games via online streaming while 14% will watch the games at a sports bar or other broadcasting venues.

Only one in ten (8%) intend to catch it live in Paris at an Olympic venue.
The study revealed that men are more likely than women to follow the Olympics via TV broadcast and online streaming. They are also more likely to read coverage on news sites or papers.
Among age groups, Gen Z viewers are most likely to catch the action online (56%) while adults aged 55 and above are most likely to watch the games on TV (64%) or read about them (48%).
When asked why they watch the Olympics, more than half of Singaporeans who watch the games (54%) said they do so to enjoy the spectacle and excitement of the event.
Additionally, 46% tune in to witness participating athletes’ feats and performances. 45% watch to support their country’s athletes.
28% of Singaporeans watch the games to avoid the feeling of missing out, while a fifth (20%) only do so because their friends and family watch it.
Across the border, Malaysians have a higher interest in the 2024 Paris Games than the average of 33 countries. Currently, 64% of Malaysians have expressed enthusiasm for the Olympics, while the global country average is at 57%.
This is according to a recent study by Ipsos where it surveyed 24,531 online adults across 33 countries. Of which, Malaysians made up over 500 over the respondents.
In addition, the study found that 73% of Malaysians agree that the 2024 Paris Games should go ahead regardless of the world's economy and conflicts.
This is especially since eight out of 10 Malaysians view the Olympics as having a positive and unifying effect on the world and the country.
Out of all the sports events, badminton is the most anticipated among Malaysians (58%), surpassing the global average and many other countries.
