Sabah Tourism Board and Boost tie-up to spur spending as interstate travel opens

The Sabah Tourism Board has tied up with Boost to support the revival and regeneration of the state’s tourism sector and overall local economy. This will be done by incentivising and encouraging spending in the domestic tourism industry. According to Boost, this partnership is expected to contribute towards merchant recovery following the reopening of interstate travel under the National Recovery Plan.

To stimulate domestic tourism and Sabah's local economy, Boost users can redeem RM100 credit into their Sabah Tourism Board Partner Wallet from the BoostUP Catalogue within the eWallet app from 5 to 30 November. The RM100 credit is valid until 5 February 2022 and can be used with no minimum spend requirement at over 100 merchants across Sabah including hotels and travel agents that accept Boost as a payment method.

Boost Biz CEO, Eric Chong, said with the country kickstarting its recovery and Malaysians already embracing a contactless lifestyle, the company is in a position to help expand the accessibility of eWallets and tap into its value to support the revival of local businesses within the tourism and travel industry that were hard hit by the pandemic.

Chong also said that it is happy to partner with the Sabah Tourism Board and is confident that this partnership will play a part in regenerating Sabah’s economy by spurring spending in the domestic tourism sector. A+M has reached out to Boost for additional information on the partnership.

Sabah Tourism Board CEO Noredah Othman said embracing opportunities with eWallets is a step towards reviving the state’s tourism industry. "Sabah has long been a popular local and international tourist destination and was adversely affected during the pandemic. However, we anticipate strong recovery soon with interstate travel now open," she said.

With the consumer shift towards contactless payment methods, Noredah said working together with Boost is the next step to promote spending and demand with local businesses by exposing them to a bigger, mobile-first customer base.

Boost rebranded in August this year from Boost Holdings, unifying all fintech services that span payment services, alternative lending, digital insurance, content services and merchant solutions under one roof. The rebranding also saw the streamlining of its products and services into Boost Life, Boost Biz, Boost Credit, and Boost Connect. Boost Holdings was formed last June through a partnership between Axiata Digital and Great Eastern. Meanwhile, Boost also named Diana Boo its executive director of marketing in July, reporting to CEO Sheyantha Abeykoon. She was previously CMO of Lazada Malaysia.
