Regal Hotels International’s vice president and group head of marketing Philip Chau (pictured) has departed after one year and seven months to go on a career break.

In a conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Chau said it has been 20 years of back-to-back jobs without a single break. “At this stage in life, I am ready for a much-deserved break, so I can spend more time with my family and work on some of my passion projects,” he added.

“When I joined Regal, I set out to deliver a number of key initiates to help bring the company’s brand and innovation forward, and I am proud to say that I have successfully achieved these goals and more, therefore I am happy with the impact I have made,” he added.

Chau’s next full-time role is yet to be confirmed, but it will be in the marketing and digital areas where his passion lies. “In the meantime, I am excited to focus on some of my passion projects, including lecturing and mentoring future marketing leaders, as well as revamping the marketing of my family’s pet business,” he said.

Having joined Regal in 2022, Chau led the group marketing department covering 12+ hotels across Asia. He has over 17 years of experience in digital innovation, performance marketing and advanced analytics having worked in corporate, agency and start-up environments.

Prior to Regal, he headed the group marketing function at Great Eagle Holding, where he led the strategy in marketing innovation, digital marketing and MarTech across a range of business units such as hotels, residential properties, co-working spaces, and shopping malls, amongst others.

Chau said with regard to his departure, “It has been a wonderful journey at Regal Hotels. Looking back, I am really proud to see what I and the team have achieved. We have brought in new thinking and innovations that are important to the company’s growth, and have achieved milestones that have never been done before. I learned a lot from fellow leaders in the company, and most important from working with the wonderful team that I had built, whom I will miss dearly.

Some of the achievements Chau has made during his time at Regal include the revamp of all 17 websites across the group, last updated 10 to 20 years ago, which is an important step in bringing the brand into the modern digital times.

He has also led the team to launch a brand new loyalty program leveraging the latest digital and marketing automation technology, consolidating three legacy programmes, which is an important new foundation for growth and synergy across the group.
